Thing 1: Introduction

I am a librarian at Valley View North Elementary. I am excited to be taking this course. I waited all year to take it. I have been resistant to wikis, blogs and such thinking that they are just a trend; but I now can see that they are here to stay.

I see this technology being important to the education system. Social networking is one of those new jobs that was not anticipated a few years ago, but it is a real job that major companies are looking to hire people with these skills.

I anticipate that not only will I learn how to create my own blog, but how to create wikis and podcasts so that I can take this knowledge and use with my students. I have been toying with the idea of using blogs, wikis, and podcasts with the struggling students. I feel that this kill and drill technique is for the birds and as educators we need to find other methods to reach the struggline student.

Thing #2 Lifelong Learning Habits

I have never thought of myself as a lifelong learner. If I need to learn it I just do it. To me going to school is learning, not everyday life. Mentoring others can be difficult for me since I don't want to communicate information wrongly, if I am not confident in what I am mentoring in. I do have the confidence in myself as a competent effective learner, but I want to make sure that I have all the kinks worked out before trying it out on someone else.
